Here are some of the more common door repair issues we repair for our customers.

Door Wont Close All the Way

There are multiple reasons a door may no longer close all the way.  On a swinging door, this is typically caused by the door latch no longer striking the latch plate in the correct location.  Depending on the tolerance of the strike plate when the door was originally installed, a slight sag in the door may be enough to cause the door to not close all the way.  Loosened or worn out hardware can cause a folding door to not close correctly.

Door Latch Sticks in Door

You may find it becomes more difficult to turn a door handle or feel the door latch stick in the strike plate. This can be caused by either movement/wear and tear in the door itself, or the door hardware wearing out and needing to be replaced. Sometimes a slight adjustment in the door strike plate is enough to resolve this problem.

Door Rubs on Jam

Do you have an issue with a door that sticks in the door frame when you try to open it? Or a door that rubs on the jam?  Sometimes you can even see where paint is beginning to rub off of the door itself.  There are many reasons a door that worked perfectly in the past may begin to rub and scrape.  Causes can be as small and simple as loosening hinge screws, or as complex as movement in your homes foundation.  Whatever the cause, having a door rub on the jam is one of the common issues we repair.

Drafty Door

During the winter months it is easy to find drafty doors.  Typically drafty doors are exterior or garage doors. Worn out weather stripping is one of the common issues that cause a drafty door, but movement or general wear and tear can also cause a door to become drafty.  Repairing a drafty door not only makes your home more comfortable, but will also save you money on your energy bill.

Sliding Door is Hard to SlideSliding glass door repair

Over time a typical complaint is having a sliding glass door that is hard to slide open or closed.  This is especially annoying in the warmer months when sliding doors tend to get more use. If there has not been any visible damage to the door, this issue can typically be resolved by cleaning the track and rollers or replacing worn out rollers. Sliding screen door repairs are similar.

Deadbolt Wont Lock

Issues with deadbolts are usually caused by a misaligned deadbolt and strike plate.  If your door had a small tolerance between the bolt and plate when it was installed, any slight sagging or movement in the frame may be enough to cause misalignment.  Diagnosing and repairing the cause will ensure your deadbolt locks correctly.
